Valencia's 10 Most Iconic Tapas Bars
If there's one thing Valencia does extraordinarily well — besides paella — it's tapas. Here, a casual picar (nibble) with friends can easily turn into a three-hour affair, and honestly, that's exactly as it should be. After years of living here and eating our way around the city, we've put together our definitive list of the most authentic, most delicious, and most unapologetically Valencian tapas bars in town. No tourists, no frills — just really, really good food.
1. Casa Montaña ❤️ Encantada Favourite
If you only visit one tapas bar in Valencia, make it this one. Casa Montaña is an old-style tavern dating all the way back to 1836 — and it has lost none of its magic. This is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've stepped back in time, in the best possible way. Come here for plates of exquisite dried meats (fiambre), paired with outstanding wines and a perfectly poured Vermouth. The wine list alone is worth the visit. An absolute must.

2. Bar Ché Taberna Vasca ❤️ Encantada Favourite
Close to Calle Colón where the trendy Ruzafa neighbourhood begins, Bar Ché is your quintessential local Spanish tapas bar — and we are obsessed. Low-key, completely unpretentious, and with absolutely delicious dishes at prices that will make you want to come back every week. Quaint, charming, and full of locals. Exactly what a great tapas bar should be.
📍 Avinguda Regne de Valencia, 9, 46005 València

3. Aquarium ❤️ Encantada Favourite
Quaint and completely fuss-free, Aquarium is one of those places that just gets everything right. Everything on the menu is simple but utterly delicious, the waiters are — and we say this with full conviction — quite possibly the best waiters in Valencia, and many would argue they serve the best Dry Martini in the city too. You won't find many tourists here, which tells you everything you need to know. They also have a gorgeous outdoor terrace that spills out onto the Gran Via park, lined with palm trees. Perfection.

4. Kiosko La Pérgola
I don't think it gets more authentically Valencian than this — so much so that they close for the entire month of August, because, well, this is Valencia and that's just how it's done. Come here for almuerzo (brunch) with a cold cerveza around the bar, or order a bocadillo (sandwich) and settle in. We highly recommend the Super BonBon — a gloriously messy heaven of sliced pork, garlic and parsley mushrooms with melted cheese. You're welcome. The place is legendary amongst locals and reservations aren't accepted, so either get there early or be prepared to wait. It is absolutely worth it.

5. Ostras Pedrín
A true Valencian classic. This compact and contemporary tavern is famous for its marisco (shellfish) — think oysters and sea urchins paired with a really excellent selection of local wines and cava. Simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The kind of place you stumble upon and immediately add to your permanent rotation.

6. Casa Victoria
Quaint, authentic, and full of character — Casa Victoria is a classic hole-in-the-wall tucked right in the heart of the Barrio del Carmen. Inexpensive drinks, great tapas, and an atmosphere that is pure Valencia. The croquettes and Vermouth here are particularly delicious. The kind of place you tell your friends about and feel slightly smug that you know it exists.
📍 Carrer de Calatrava, 23, 46001 València

7. Cervecería Alhambra
If you want to try one of Valencia's best tortillas (Spanish potato omelette), this is your place. This small, no-frills café with outdoor seating is a Valencian classic, renowned for its tortilla and sandwiches. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated — just really good, honest food done properly.
